"Faith Matters". I am so happy to see that advertisement of Catholic Match in Friendster today. It reminds me to finally submit our story and to show to this amazing website how grateful we are that they are paving the way for Catholics to find their future spouse.
Phil and I (Carmel Jane) could meet nowhere in this big world except through online and on Catholic Match! He is from Virginia and I am from the Philippines. He got hooked with Catholic Match after long years of discerning whether he was called to the monastery. Finally, when he realized that one can seek sanctity in the midst of the world, he signed up for Catholic Match to see if marriage was for him.
As for me, I was praying that God would make me a celibate person. But I felt He might be leading me to other vocations and so I signed up on this website to see if I could find a good Catholic guy.
We first encountered each other's profile in Lent of 2005. Just after Easter, our beloved JP II The Great was dying. While he was still on his deathbed, I had already prayed to him to tell God, that if Phil is the one, may God pave the way soon, and if Phil would only make me commit sin, better to cut it as soon as possible.
I don’t know, but I just had a very strong faith in those times that John Paul II would whisper my prayers when he finally saw God face-to-face.
Our Lady too, was such a great matchmaker. I also asked her intercession that if God wants me to marry, may it be to a person who loves God more than anyone in this world.
Phil is a passionate lover of God long before he knew I existed somewhere in the Philippines. He had fought for his love for God by following Him to the Catholic Church. He was a convert from the Methodist church when he was 18. Being Catholic brought him so many adventures in life and so many contradictions. I learned and continue learning from him how to be a good child of God. When I first read his profile, I couldn't believe that there was a guy like him. I was so impressed the first time we talked on the phone. He asked me if I would like to pray to Our Lady before our conversation and that made me pray for him more!
Faith truly matters. With faith, I prayed for a spouse who believes in the sanctity and purity of marriage and with faith too, I finally said yes when Phil asked me to marry him. We got married at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish last July 16, 2007, Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
Two weeks before our wedding, my mother was called home by Our Lord. Amidst my suffering, Phil was my pillar of strength and he stood by me the whole time. Even before he could say his solemn vow of being there for me in whatever circumstance in life, he already lived it.
Truly, God always makes our dream fall short. He always gives us more blessings than we can ask for ourselves. In my life, Phil is one great blessing from God. I always thank God for him everyday in the Holy Mass.
Thank you so much Catholic Match, and rest assured of our prayers for your apostolate.
Omnia in Bonum!
