I (Emily) first saw Chris's profile on December 22, 2006. I was immediately interested–his profile made me laugh, in a good way, and I saw that we had more than just a few things in common. So, I sent him a simple smile. Not long after (as in a couple of hours) Chris responded with an email. So, we emailed back and forth a couple of times, all in the same day, and that night we chatted on CM for at least four hours. It was the same story for the next week or so. Then, after about a week of getting to know each other via chat, we decided to talk on the phone. From there, things continued to progress very smoothly. Now we had to deal with our biggest hurdle–Chris was in Wyoming and I was in Missouri.
After about six weeks of emailing, chatting, and speaking over the phone, we decided we were ready to meet face-to-face. Chris made the 15-hour drive, overnight, to meet me at my parents' house–what a brave guy! We hit it off immediately, and as they say, the rest is history. For the next five months, we saw each other about once a month. Chris came to me a few times, we met out at one of my aunt's houses in LA once, I went to see him once, and then we took a road trip so that I could meet his family.
By July, we knew that we wanted to live in the same state at least, if not the same town. Chris talked about moving to Missouri, but had a hard time finding a job. So, since I had always wanted to move "out west" I loaded up and headed to Wyoming. Thankfully, I found a teaching job, and I got settled in before the school year started.
We both knew we had met "the one" and we had already begun talking of marriage. In fact, we met with our priest before Chris had officially proposed. So, his proprosal wasn't too much of a surprise, but it was wonderful! He proposed on August 11, his birthday, at my home church. We had driven all night to go visit my parents, but before going to their house, we decided to go to confession, since it was a Saturday afternoon. After we had both visited the confessional, Chris asked me if I wanted to pray. Then, he popped the question–it was perfect!
We were married about 4 1/2 months later, at the suggestion of our priest. We were planning on waiting the suggested six months, but because of my teaching schedule, Father suggested we just do it over Christmas break. So, on December 29, 2007–one year and one week to the day from when we exchanged our first emails on CM–we were married in the church I grew up in! I couldn't have dreamed of a more beautiful wedding!
Our story doesn't end there…on February 5, 2008, we found out we were expecting our first child! Little Isabella made her entrance into the world on October 19, 2008! We had her baptized on November 15, 2008. God is so very good!
I don't think either of us truly expected to find our spouse online, though we both wanted to be married and have a family very much. We are so very grateful that God's expectations are bigger than ours! And we are so thankful that He used Catholic Match to bring us together!
