He Works In Mysterious Ways

He Works In Mysterious Ways

Sarah's Story:

I had a profile on Catholic Match (CM) for about one year, maybe even longer, before I bought a subscription. I was in a relationship that subsequently ended because of differences in religion, so I found it very important to find someone who was Catholic.

I was still very hesitant about buying the subscription because I didn't know about the whole online dating thing, but then I thought that I had nothing to lose except $60, so why not. About a month and a half after I bought the subscription, Michael-178211 sent me an emotigram. I guess you could say the rest is history.

I checked out his profile and I really liked what I read about him, so of course I sent him an emotigram back. We then started emailing each other on a regular basis, exchanged phone numbers, talked frequently and eventually went out on a first date. I loved getting emails from him and I couldn't wait when we got to talk on the phone. From our many conversations and emails we began to realize that we had a lot in common, shared the same views on a lot of different things and found ourselves to be on the same level with our faith. I was very excited and very nervous to meet him because I had a really good feeling about where this might go. Our first date was wonderful. We definitely hit it off and initiated a second date. I knew from the beginning that he's the one and that we are meant to be together.

When people ask about how we met, I occasionally hesitate about mentioning that we met online, but when I do, it's usually a positive reaction or they admit to online dating themselves. I would say online dating has definitely become a norm.

I initially found CM from a Google search, but then I would hear advertisements on AM Catholic Radio and saw ads in church bulletins. Of course I am very grateful, and thank God everyday for blessing me with Michael and that CM brought us together. God works in mysterious ways.

Michael's Story:

Like Sarah, I had had my profile on CM, for quite sometime. I too, was hesitant about meeting someone online. For me, it was finding someone who shared my level of faith, and understood, the importance of faith, family, and friends–the things that I felt were truly the finer things in life. Before I met Sarah, I had recently moved to a new city, and had thought that starting a new job would lead me to the woman I was meant to be with. However, I quickly realized that the women I was meeting thru work and thru friends were nice people, but not looking to travel the same path I was.

So after sometime, I decided to do a search on CM, and saw Sarah's profile. I was instantly drawn to her. Her profile gave me every indication that she was someone who was looking for the same things in life as I was. I know that for about five minutes I tried to come up with a great emotigram line and finally just asked how her Masters' program was going. Having finished mine a few years earlier, I hoped that it was a great common place to start to get to know each other. I was right! As we started emailing, and then eventually talking on the phone, we found we could joke and talk about anything.

Our first date was very special, as we talk about it now. We both were very nervous, but feel that the other came across as calm. I knew after our first date that we were meant to be together. We were so comfortable talking to each other. It was like we had known each other all our lives.

We both joke that our relationship was built on a foundation of determination. Being that we had just started dating in December of 2008, we have had some interesting weather. Mother Nature has given us some terrible conditions to travel in, but we both are determined to see each other. The hour trip some days has been just that and others it is almost three hours long. But we don't mind, because we know that God is watching over us and keeping us safe.

A final thought that we both agree on, as to how we knew that we are meant for each other (aside from both of us knowing on a personal level), was the second Mass we went to together, where Father discussed the importance of thanking God in times of good. Father said too often we tend to seek out the Lord when time are tough, but he said that when times are good, we need to thank God for the gifts and people he has put in our lives. For this we are truly grateful, for God has brought us together.

Thank you for letting us share our story with all of you.
