During the Christmas break of my junior year in college, I (Olivia) was home for the holidays and began to reflect on my life and the relationships that I had had during my three years of school. I had only been in one serious relationship (a long distance relationship) for about two years, but after the break up I just dated casually. When I really sat down and thought about the aspects and values within a relationship that were important to me, I came to the realization that my Catholic faith was a key factor. I had explored the online dating scene before but had never had any success. It then occurred to me that maybe there was an online dating site for Catholics. Sure enough, I found Catholic Match and immediately created a profile.
I was hesitant to subscribe and couldn't imagine actually spending my hard earned money to meet people. I arrived back to school in Washington, DC and a few days later, I was receiving messages from a couple of guys. I finally convinced myself to subscribe so that I could read them and there was no turning back. I received a message from a guy named Keith and immediately upon seeing his profile, was amazed at how much we seemed to have in common. He was a strong devout Catholic, a great athlete, and very family oriented. I responded back and after a few intriguing conversations, really wanted to hear his voice so gave him my number.
Within an hour, the phone rang and to my surprise Keith was on the other end. Immediately, I knew that something was different about him by the way he spoke. He was intense, passionate, honest, and I'll never forget the one question that he asked me. "Are we ever actually going to meet or are you just on this site to be penpals or whatever?" Needless to say, he booked a flight to Washington two days later and flew up from Tampa for the weekend. I met him at the airport that Friday night and right when I saw him, I knew that he was the man I had been waiting for.
It really struck me when we went to Mass together Saturday night. I usually have a tough time explaining to every other guy I dated that I attended Mass weekly, and how important it is to me, but this time my date was standing right next to me. It was one of the best feelings I've ever felt.
The weekend eventually ended, but after three days of being with Keith, I pretty much knew that I God had finally put the most wonderful man I had ever met into my life, after years of praying and hoping. We've only been dating for three months but now I truly understand the phrase, "When you know, you know." We'll keep you posted Catholic Match!
