A Perfect Storm

A Perfect Storm

I (Sarah) had been on Catholic Match for about five months, and had been on one or two dates. Then I took a break from dating to help a friend in a tough situation. That friend passed unexpectedly and all my friends about two months later told me I needed to look at dating again to help me recover.

So I came back to Catholic Match and looked to see if anyone new had joined. Vince was new to the site, and seemed to be someone I would want to meet. So we started emailing and after a few days of email we met one Saturaday to watch a Texas A&M football game at a local pizza joint and microbrewry. I was still nervous about getting close after losing my friend, but wanted to give Vince a chance. He was more than understanding about my situation and we decided to take things slow. God must have had other plans though. A week after we met, our area was greeted by Hurricane Ike, so in our first week of dating we spent time together getting my coastal home ready for the storm. Then the week after the storm he met my parents so we could help them recover from their damaged home. The first day he met my parents, he hadn't showered or shaved in two days because his apartment had no electricity and no water after the storm.

I work in emergency management so I was coming off a 72 hour shift. After we showered, we went to lunch and then came back and helped my parents remove damaged sheetrock and carpet before I had to return to work. Even meeting my family under these circumstances they still liked him. My sister wanted to start planning our wedding two weeks after we met because she thought we were perfect for each other. We got engaged in December before flying to New York to meet his parents, which went really well. We just completed our engaged encounter and are planning a sacramental wedding in September.
