A Proposal To Remember

A Proposal To Remember

Christine and I met on Catholic Match last July.  Her membership was
a few days from expiring, whereas I had just signed up.  In fact,
Christine was the first person I contacted on Catholic Match.  For
several weeks we exchanged email messages, until we decided to meet in
person on August 12.  Our relationship progressed quickly despite
living four hours apart from one another.  In a short time, we knew our
prayers had been answered.  On December 5, I asked Christine to be my
wife.  Here is our proposal story.

It was cold, rainy day, but
Christine and Seth were enjoying themselves
at a Singles for Christ (SFC) CLP (Christian Life Program) dedication
night. Seth knew that he
wanted to propose to Christine, but was tonight to be the night? Even
he did not know. Christine and Seth wanted to go into the city to see
the Christmas decorations, but neither of them wanted to do so in the
rain. As the graduation celebration continued, Christine and Seth saw
that the rain had changed to snow. They agreed that it would be
beautiful to see the city while it was snowing. Seth was excited
because he felt in his heart that this was the night. His plan would
come to life, but wait. Suddenly they had plans to go to
one of their favorite restaurants for dessert with one of Christine's
friends! The plan
once again was in question. Would they get to New York in time or not?
Should Seth tell Christine's friend his plan or just wait for another
day?

Eventually, after enjoying delicious desserts and some cappuccino,
Christine and Seth were on their way to the city. To their dismay, the
snow that was falling in New Jersey was light rain in the city.
Nevertheless, they parked their car next to Bryant Park (the same park
they had gone to on their first date). Even though they already had
dessert, they had yet to have dinner. Seth suggested that they go to
West End Cafe, the location of their first date. Christine and Seth
enjoyed a delectable dinner together once again. Next, Seth suggested
that they head to the top of the Empire State Building. He knew they
were short on time so he persuaded Christine that it would be best to
take a taxi and go straight to the Empire State Building. When they
arrived at the Empire State Building, there were less than ten
visitors. They soon found out why. Each employee they saw warned them
that there was 0% visibility from the 86th floor observatory. Seth was
determined. He was not about to let a minor visibility issue get in his
way. They decided to venture to the top anyway.

When they arrived on the 86th floor, they realized the rain at
the bottom of the building was beautiful snow at the top! The storm was
beginning to pass and through the snowflakes, they could see much of
the city. Christine and Seth were about to go back down when they
realized there was another elevator that took visitors even higher.
They inquired about the elevator and were informed that they needed
tickets, which could only be purchased at the bottom of the building,
in order to go up. Another gentleman who worked there overheard their
conversation and told the elevator man to take Christine and Seth all
the way to the top. Christine and Seth were now on top of the world!
Would this be the moment? No. However, they did enjoy the view from the
102 floor observatory. Seth looked at the time and suggested they go
see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Christine agreed.

It was getting late, so once again they grabbed a taxi to get to their
next destination as soon as possible. When they arrived, they were in
awe of the beauty of the enormous and colorful Christmas tree. They
took several pictures and then walked towards the ice rink. Seth asked
Christine if she would like to ice skate. Christine was reluctant since
she was a novice, but finally agreed after some gentle persuasion. It
was now about 11:30PM and the rink was scheduled to close at midnight.
They had to get fitted for ice skates as quickly as possible. On the
ice, Christine and Seth had a wonderful time skating although they
spent much of their time picking themselves up off the ice. The expert
skaters, who work there, came over to assist Christine and Seth
numerous times. As the clock approached midnight, the employees began
to direct people off the ice. Seth knew it was time. He took Christine
to the center of the ice for a couple of pictures. Time was running
out. There were very few people on the ice now. He hugged Christine and
told her, "I love you". She said, "I love you, too". Seth said, "No, I
really love you." Then Seth got down on his knee, pulled out a ring,
and asked Christine to marry him. Christine began to cry. Seth was
pretty sure that they were tears of joy, but he wanted to be positive.
He asked her, "Is that a yes or a no?". As you can probably guess, she
said "Yes"!. When they looked up, they realized that they were the only
ones on the ice. They looked around and realized that about 75-100
people were watching them from the street level! Everyone began to
cheer, whistle, and yell. Many of the bystanders took pictures to
capture the moment. A few people even threw some roses on the ice for
Christine. As they were about to exit the rink, one of the employees
asked if they would like to take a victory lap around the ice.
Christine and Seth took them up on their offer and managed to make it
around the rink one more time without falling.

The rest, as they say, is history in the making!
