Grief & Faith: Losing A Fiancée-To-Be In Hurricane Katrina

Coping With Grief

We recently commemorated the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. As someone who lost 18 relatives and friends, including a fiancée-to-be, overwhelming grief has been something I have had to cope with.

Grief is a part of all of our lives. We grieve when someone dies. We grieve when we lose something. We grieve during times of change. But as singles, our grief experience is different. Unless you are close with someone you’re dating, we usually grieve on our own.

How do you deal with grief? Do you move inward and reflect? Do you surround yourself with family and friends? Do you get busy with work or other activities to get your mind off of it?

Always remember that our God is faithful, and no matter what we are dealing with or going through, “we know that all things work together for the good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
