New Forum To Provide Better Community Support

CatholicMatch is creating a new forum to provide quicker community support.

From the very beginning of CatholicMatch, forums have been an integral part of our community. Between the laughter and the serious political “discussions,” many meaningful friendships (and more than a few marriages!) have been forged. They have definitely evolved since the early days, and we hope to continue improving them for the better.

While the forums have long provided a place to share triumphs, trials and prayer requests, we’re hoping to help grow and shape them to help meet another need of the community: actually using CatholicMatch!

We have multiple staff members whose only responsibility is to answer questions about the site. And while we are happy to provide that service, many of these questions could be better answered by either our staff or community members in a place easily search-able and more accessible than a list of frequently asked questions.

To that end, we will soon be creating a new Community Support Forum. In this forum members can look up questions that others have asked or ask questions and get a timely answer from the community at large or from a customer service person directly.

Along with the arrival of the new forum, it is our plan to introduce some forum moderators from among the community. While the abilities of this new title are still not completely decided, their role will largely revolve around keeping the peace and answering questions posed in the Community Support Forum.

An update that was released Wednesday was a voting system for posts. This is a basic thumbs-up if you like it or thumbs-down if you don’t. With an average of 6,000 readers, 500 posters, and between 1,000 and 2,000 posts a day, this will hopefully help the new moderators to find trouble before it gets out of hand, as well as provide a way to highlight people who are generally well regarded for possible promotion to moderator status. One vote per person per post – and it’s anonymous, of course.

If you want to remove or switch your vote, you can just click the icon again. After gathering some data, we may include a rating for people, although this is definitely something that you take one step at a time.
