Fifth Day Of Christmas: Mary Teaches Math, Treasures Faith

Math teacher finds laughter and wisdom on CatholicMatch.com.

We’re delighted to spotlight Mary-203631 for the fifth day of Christmas.

What were the greatest blessings of 2010?

After graduating from college, God blessed me with not one fantastic job, but two!

The first seemed to be just a stepping stone, one that taught me so much about the incredible people at the Department of Veterans Affairs and the awesome veterans they serve.

Out of the blue came my second opportunity as a high school math teacher, a position I’d trained for extensively. More wonderful friends! Plus about 100 great kids. I love them all, and teaching is the best job in the world – even if it is math.

How has your approach to finding a mate evolved?

I’m now allowing God to do the finding for me. I know that He has in mind who my beloved will be. I just hope my future beloved follows God’s prompting!

What’s your CatholicMatch strategy?

I try to get online several times a week. I go first to the Oremus forum and pray for those who need prayer. Sometimes I post a reply, but many times I just read the prayer requests and pray.

If I see a topic in the other forums that interests me, I try to post and interact. There are so many incredible people here. It’s fun to be around them, if only from afar.

Why do you stay on CatholicMatch?

I’ve met some of my best friends here. I still chat daily with some of the past CatholicMatch members. They’re wonderful Catholic people who keep me heading in the right direction, offering advice and giving much-needed direction, and I love them dearly.

CatholicMatch is a place where I come to talk about and learn about the teachings of the Catholic Church. I love Christ’s church with all my heart. There are many here who are much more knowledgeable than I am, and I learn so much from them.

CatholicMatch is a place where I feel I can offer my own advice and knowledge. I love helping others. If someone here needs lifting up, I can offer advice, give a {{HUG}} or simply pray for them.

CatholicMatch is a place of laughter. I need a good laugh from time to time – daily – and the ladies and gentlemen here certainly know how to laugh!

What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?

On Christmas morning we open a present or two. Then it’s off to Mass, which is always the best part of the day. It’s amazing being with family and friends, worshiping Christ as a sweet baby.

We then come home for more presents and snacks. Later in the day we share a lovely meal, which includes Christmas pudding and custard for dessert.

What’s your hope for 2011?

My hope is that all here will be blessed with health and happiness. For myself, my hope is to grow in holiness, to do Our Lord’s will, and to go where He leads me.

Make a prediction for 2011.

  1. The War Room warriors will become polite, engaging in intense debate with immense patience, kindness, and generosity. Aaahhh!
  2. Aloha Carl will find his beloved when he least expects it and the two will surf away (well, you know, back to shore) to a life together that is full of love, laughter, and pure joy!
  3. Ray will propose during an Auburn game…could it be Jan. 10? He’ll be married on the deck of a huge ship, in uniform (bling bling!) to his beautiful beloved. What fun!
  4. Megan will find a wonderful job, get married to a really cute guy, and have more than a few babies (well, we’ll have to spread that out over a few years). She’ll be the best mom ever!
  5. Canon Law Mary will meet an amazing man (because she’s just the most amazing woman) who lives in a warmer climate. Her vacations will be spent with her toes in the sand.

Oh, gosh, I could go on and on, but the list is so long! I can’t name you all, but my prediction (and fervent prayer) is that we’ll all not only meet someday soon (in real life), but that each of us will know deep and lasting love, the kind of love that can only be orchestrated by Our Lord. God bless you all!

    Mary,

Congratulations on your selection as one of the 12. Shows what the CM community thinks of you as Mary the person. You are an inspiration to all who read your profile and view your posts. I know we can expect the same in 2011.

Mary is one of the loveliest people on CM. She is a real lady and a great catch for sure. Excellent, excellent choice. In fact, I think all the choices are great so far. Fun to look each day and see who is next.

Yeah!!! I am so glad that Mary was chosen. She and I go way back on CM (Am I allowed to say that, Mary? :P ) She is such a lovely lady. Her students and co-workers are blessed to have her brightening their world. I find her to be such a woman of grace and charity, and the man that wins her heart will be rich indeed.

Mary, thank you for your comments about how you pray in Oremus. You reminded me of what used to be my practice there. I am going to return to praying there before I go anywhere else on the site. It is the very best part of CM. :)
