It’s all in the way you approach it…if you’re positive about it, you’ll have fun anyways. If you sulk and feel sorry for yourself, of course you’re going to dread it. Its just another blessed day either way!!! I’m single and I still make it special for my kids and myself. I’ll do the usual buying of cards, candy and a special stuffed animal for each of them and we’ll go out for dinner and a movie. If I’m blessed with someone at some point in my life, then we’ll just add him in!!!

My late husband passed away on Feb. 11th and his funeral was on Valentine’s Day. So every year, (just when they’re the most expensive) I buy a dozen roses. I put 6 on his grave and keep the other 6 for my Valentine to myself.

As Tom petty sings” I don’t know why you lay there revel in your abandon” (off the song refugee).. we live in thanksgiving sharing Gods love with the downcast and lonely. I have a single catholic friend (mind you he has autism) whos turning 40 and still lives in that “woe is me” attitude. Single people should use their singality to offer up a prayer of petition to the lonely people on earth, and find someone who needs companionship, because theres many of those out there.

Feb 16th is my Parents wedding Anniversary they would have been Married 48 years this year. However my Father died in 2005 and that day is bitter sweet for the Family. We do our best to make sure Valentines day is special for our Mother we send or give candy on Valentines day and my Brothers and sisters send flowers on the 16th. Seeing how my Parents treated life with eachother is what makes me going on that day. I realize that day is about someone else not about you.

Send a Mass card to my sister. A card to my brother and sister-in-law. Put together two small gift bags for two women who are single and alone. Give my animals a big hug and a special treat, except for one cat that is not huggable. He gets a quick pet and a special treat. Stay busy. Working that day.

Because I’m single I can be selective about whom I spend time with. This year I’ll accompany a beautiful girl to a Father/Daughter dance.
