Let It Be

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

What consoling insight Paul McCartney offered us in that famous song. Mary certainly does come to us in our hour of need to console us as any mother would, and praying the rosary always brings a sense of peace and calm.

But the real wisdom of that song is in the title: let it be. How often when we pray we are asking God to change something when maybe our prayer should be, “Your will be done, Lord, let it be.” What a beautiful prayer of acceptance which Our Lady modeled for us throughout her life, even as she watched her innocent and Divine Son die a criminal’s death on the cross. Take some time today to reflect on your life and ask your Mother in heaven to obtain for you the grace to say, “Your will be done, Lord, let it be.”

This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven – Matthew 6: 9-10
