I recently enrolled in 3 months of personal trainingat my local gym. I admit, exercise and physical discipline are not really my passion in life, but I workout for my health and I know that this is a good thing. At 8 am on Wednesdays and Fridays, I go through a most intense and exhausting workout planned by my personal trainer. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it – when I’m in the moment – because the workout is very difficult and my muscles
are lazy. But afterward, despite some soreness, I feel absolutely great. I know that what I am doing is the right thing. I know that what I am doing will pay off. And what makes it even better is that my personal trainer is there the whole time, cheering me on… “You can do it! Come on, just a couple more! Keep going… you’re doing great!”
Wouldn’t it be fantastic to have a personal trainer for all the various and difficult aspects of life? Someone to cheer you on… You can do it! Come on, just a couple more! Keep going… you’re doing great! As Christians, we do have access to “personal trainers” in our practical and spiritual matters. We have the communion of saints… all the saints in heaven who are watching and just waiting for us to pray to them for help. They can intercede with God for us and help us obtain the graces we need through their earthly example and their heavenly prayers. We have our Blessed Mother who helps us in ways we are not even aware of. And we have God, the Holy Spirit who guides us and inspires us at every moment.
If you are finding your life to be a personal struggle, then team with these, the finest personal trainers around, and you will be sure to find great satisfaction and consolation in knowing you are doing the right thing.
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. – Hebrews 12:11
