How to Pray When It’s Difficult

“I had never experienced so much fear and pain in my life. The night my wife told me she was leaving, I dropped to my knees for the first time since I was a kid,” said Craig. Craig’s Catholic friends encouraged him to continue praying, but each had a different suggestion on how to pray. “One suggested I pray a novena. Another suggested I pray the rosary every day. Others suggested I pray to specific saints. My sister told me to make sure I went to adoration for an hour each week to pray.”

Prayer is simple and loving communication with God. It should be heartfelt and not contrived. The Catholic faith supplies us with a treasure of prayers, novenas and devotionals. But at times, it can be confusing to try to figure out what prayer we need to say. Find the method of prayer that feels most comfortable for you and talk to God. He is waiting to hear from you and He is listening!

So I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11: 9
