Seek Christ First

People are very vulnerable after a divorce and as a result try to sooth their pain by jumping into some other relationship. While this may validate their need to prove they are still lovable in the short-term, it is certainly a formula for an unhealthy, unsuccessful relationship. Your perspective, your ability to make decisions, and your view of the future are not lucid or stable in the first year after a divorce. The best serious relationship you can pursue is one with Christ. He is the true healer. His guidance is always perfect.

The key is to orient your life around Christ and open your mind and heart to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is done through daily prayer and participation in the sacraments. Turn those times of solitude into opportunities to really embrace God and your faith. Reading scripture, extended prayer time, time in front of the Blessed Sacrament, participating in Mass, and socializing with people who stand strong in the Catholic faith are great ways to deepen your relationship with Christ. This will help sensitize you to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and result in living a life more fully aligned with God’s will. When you do that, not only will you heal, you will become a living testament to God’s love and mercy and an inspiration to others. Your example will actually draw others closer to Christ. You will become a gift to all you meet.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
