The Lost And Searching Sheep

Do you feel unwelcome at church since your divorce or separation? Do you believe you don’t have a place anymore at your parish or in the Church at all?

Do not be afraid! No matter what has happened, no matter what anyone has told you about being divorced and Catholic, you are still an important part of the Church, the mystical Body of Christ.

In the Gospel of Matthew, we read about the Shepherd who leaves His flock to find the lost sheep. Now, you may be the spouse who was abandoned, or you may be the spouse who left. No matter what the circumstance, YOU are the one that Christ is seeking. You are the sheep He loves so much that He will do anything to keep you close to Him. We are all wounded by sin, whether it is our own sin, or the sin of another. Jesus is looking for you… He wants to bring you home and heal you.
In this gospel story, we see that none of the sheep received as much attention as the one who had strayed. God’s mercy is overwhelming. Take some time today to contemplate how His mercy envelopes your life.
What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost (Matthew 18: 12-14).
