Don’t Make Negative Resolutions

Rebuilding your life after divorce is a daunting task and the struggles are enormous. It takes a courageous person to really make the most of it through personal refinement; you know, reflecting on what happened in the marriage to cause the divorce and then, working to change those faults you identify and which contributed to the divorce.

In doing so, you may adopt some resolutions to practice each day. If so, make them positive resolutions, not negative ones. For example, instead of saying “I won’t speak angrily to my ex next time,” try “I will pray for more peaceful encounters with my ex-spouse.”

Practicing a virtue is always more effective and life-changing than avoiding a sin.

I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime (Ecclesiastes 3:12).
