Divorce is a terrible thing to go through and the loss that is experienced happens on many different levels. The whole, intact family unit is lost. The love and trust between spouses is lost. Relationships with friends, family, and neighbors are lost. Property, reputation and self-esteem… lost.
All these losses piled one on top of the other are devastating and can make even the most faithful person look to God and ask why?
In his first letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul gives you the answer you need at this time: “What you sow is not brought to life unless it dies” (1 Cor. 15:36).
We all must die to ourselves and what you are experiencing is precisely that; dying to yourself. You are experiencing a little of what Christ did for all of us. He gave everything, every drop of blood, every ounce of strength. He spared nothing to show us how much He loves us.
He sees what you are going through and loves you all the more. Your losses are bringing you closer to Him in the purest way. Let His love carry you through and wait with hope for your ressurection.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
