One of the hardest things about going through a divorce and trying to rebuild your life afterward lies in enduring all the painful details no one notices or knows you are managing. It can be as tiny a detail as having to check the “divorced” box on a form – which might seem minor to someone else, but to you, it’s a blaring horn that invites judgment and criticism from others – to the lonliness of coming home to an empty house.
It’s at times like these you need to remind yourself that God notices. God knows what you are going through.
Suffering well isn’t easy, but when you try to suffer with dignity and grace, your heavenly Father sees your efforts, loves you and blesses you for it. When it seems like no one can relate, God is right there and He certainly understands your pain.
More importantly, your efforts to keep the faith and persevere despite your circumstances build up a treasure in heaven that waits for you. Don’t lose sight of this and let it motivate you to keep going, keep trying. Life will get better.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal (Matthew 6:20).
