A Gift Only You Can Give

St. Therese of Liseux suffered a lot in her life and offered it up for sinners. When she was 14, she became aware of a man named Pranzini who had murdered three people. He was sentenced to death and still showed no signs of remorse. For a month-and-a-half, Therese offered all her prayers and sufferings for this hardened criminal. God gave her a sign: this great sinner took a crucifix and kissed the wounds of the Savior three times in the last moment before his death. Upon learning this, Therese said, “This is my first son.” She later wrote, “Suffering alone can give birth to souls for Jesus.”

No doubt your divorce has caused you to suffer greatly. Would you consider a spiritual parenthood, such as St. Therese demonstrated for us? What a beautiful way to win souls for Christ and bring eternal value to your suffering, especially at a time when you most likely feel like your hands are completely tied and you have control over nothing. This is a wonderful way to offer your suffering to Christ.

Whether you know someone who needs your sacrifices or maybe you read a tragic story in the newspaper, offer your sufferings for sinners and build yourself a treasure in heaven.

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Phillipians 4:13).
