God Loves Everyone – Even Your Ex-Spouse
Most men and women who go through a divorce harbor a great deal of resentment toward their ex-spouse for some amount of time, often because of infidelity and abandonment.
This can make living a Christian life difficult at best. Prayer becomes dry and an arduous task and it is easy to become consumed with negativity. But there are some things that can help you release these toxic feelings…
While your anger and bitterness toward your ex-spouse (in-laws, the other man/woman, etc.) are most likely justified, you need to remember 2 things: First, to accept that you cannot control your ex-spouse’s words, thoughts or actions, and accepting that reality begins the detachment process. The only person you can control is yourself. Clinging to the resentment will only eat away at your heart like a cancer. Second, to accept the fact that God loves your ex-spouse as much as He loves you and He wants you BOTH in Heaven! No matter how badly your ex has behaved, God still wants his/her soul for Himself. Which means that the Golden Rule must rule. Ask God for the grace to forgive and the knowledge of how He wants you to let go of the resentment. He will bless you abundantly for this.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever shall believe in Him shall have everlasting life. - John 3: 16
